“Northern Dolpo, Summer 1981” Drawing by Eric Valli
The pilgrims postrate in front of the crystal mountain during the annual pilgrimage of the full moon in August. The “lapse”, a cairn topped with prayer flags, symbolizes the residence of gods. Horns of the best yaks are piled here to facilitate their happy reincarnation.
